Meet the Team - Amy

What is your "real life" job?
I am a nurse in the Birth Center at United Hospital.

Why did you decide to participate in the Breast Cancer 3 Day?
I have worked with Heidi Sue for 5 years now, and after seeing the Dubar Dolls in 2007 I was inspired. I joined the team in 2008 for my rookie walk, and this year I will be returning as a veteran.

Do you have a personal connection with breast cancer?
My Mother's roommate Ellen successfully beat breast cancer a few years ago. And although I did not know Michelle at the time she was diagnosed, my friendship with Heidi made it personal.

What are you most looking forward to in participating?
I love being a part of a team. I joined when my son was still an infant, which can be an isolating time. The team gave me the chance to be a part of something bigger than myself, as well as access to the advice and support of many Mothers. I am most looking forward to being at camp during the walk. It was reminiscent of college life, which made it so much fun.
What will be your biggest challenge in participating?
The time commitment required for all of the team events and fundraising.
What do you hope to gain from this experience?
I hope to set an example for my Son. I want him to grow up with the drive to make a difference in the world, and the knowledge that his actions can make a difference.
